- D'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2019La maladie de Black Dead Arm, également connue sous le nom de maladie du bras mort, est une maladie de la vigne. Causé par le champignon Eutypa Latace trouble fait que la moitié de la vigne, ou un bras de celle-ci, devient du bois mort. Cependant, loin de disparaître, la vigne prospère et tandis qu'un côté reste totalement inerte, l'autre produit des rendements faibles mais d'une grande intensité et qualité. Ces baies sont utilisées pour produire le D'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz, un vin rouge produit par la cave D'Arenberg dans la vallée de McLaren en Australie méridionale, l'une des régions viticoles les plus prospères du pays. Les origines de ce domaine remontent à 1912, lorsque Joseph Osborn - qui travaillait avec le négociant en vins Thomas Hardy depuis 1881 - a décidé de planter 3 hectares de syrah. Aujourd'hui, la quatrième génération de la famille poursuit l'activité de cette cave, considérée comme une référence dans la région. Chez D'Arenberg, les vendanges sont effectuées avec de petits quotas. Auparavant, Chestern Osborn (vigneron en chef) sélectionne et classe chaque parcelle du vignoble, en fixant une date de récolte différente pour chacune d'entre elles. Les vignes poussent sur une grande variété de sols. La vallée de McLaren en particulier est l'une des régions les plus diversifiées du monde sur le plan géologique, avec des vignobles qui poussent sur des marnes, du sable, de l'argile et du calcaire. La plupart des vignobles de la région sont également plantés sur la bande côtière, très proche de l'océan Indien, ce qui garantit fraîcheur et humidité dans une zone où les précipitations se font de plus en plus rares. Le climat méditerranéen (étés chauds et hivers doux) est évidemment influencé par ces brises, ce qui signifie qu'il y a peu de risques de gel. Dans la cave, les petits lots de D'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz sont délicatement écrasés et encuvés dans des cuves ouvertes de cinq tonnes. Le moût de raisin commence à fermenter. Le vin est ensuite pressé en panier et transvasé dans des fûts de chêne français neufs et usagés, où il achèvera sa fermentation. Beginning at Wembury Bay on the south coast and finishing at Lynmouth, the 11-stage walk passes through the beautiful Devon countryside and across two of southwest England's magnificent moorlands, Dartmoor and Exmoor. The schedule can be adjusted to give a one-week walk, or a more leisurely pace if preferred, and the book includes low-level bad-weather alternative routes for some moorland stretches.
